Aromatic Pear, Rosemary & Nutmeg Cocktail Mix
At this festive time of year, can be a time when my clients find it more difficult to stick to dietary plans and avoid excess sugar. Alcoholic drinks are often the number one temptation, and if you are a cocktail fan, this can be even trickier as they are usually mixed with sugary mixers.
Firstly, I will stress that alcohol is an anti-nutrient, and toxic to the body in even moderate amounts, so if you are drinking this season, keep within the government guidelines of no more than 14 units spread out through the week. This is the equivant of one and a half 750cl bottles of wine, or 8 single shots of spirits.
When you are out, try to avoid cocktails all together if you don’t know exactly what is in the mixer and choose a glass of red wine instead, for a resveratrol (antioxidant) boost. If you are entertaining at home and want to create a 'healthier' cocktail for you and your guests, make up a jug of no added sugar, fruit-based mix such as this delicious pear, rosemary and nutmeg mixer. Blend with a 'cleaner' spirit such as vodka, or gin and add ice. For all you pregnant ladies out there, this mixer is also great on its own as a non alcoholic cocktail.
